Epoxy floors
Epoxy garage floor coating in Tucson
Epoxy is the original garage floor coating: a two-part resin that bonds hard to ground concrete. It costs less per square foot than polyaspartic and makes an excellent base coat.

Where epoxy works well
- As the base coat under a flake broadcast and UV-stable topcoat
- Solid-color floors in shops and garages that don't get direct sun
- Budget-conscious projects
- Metallic and decorative floors
Arizona considerations
Most epoxies can amber (yellow) with UV exposure, so in a sunny Tucson garage many installers top epoxy with a polyaspartic or urethane clear coat. Epoxy also cures more slowly: expect to wait several days before parking. In summer, heat shortens its working time, so crews often install early in the day.
Professional epoxy vs. DIY kits
Store-bought kits are usually water-based epoxy paint over acid-etched concrete. They're thin and often lift under hot tires within a year or two, especially in Arizona heat. Professional systems use 100% solids epoxy over diamond-ground concrete, which is a very different product.
Questions
How long does epoxy take to cure?
Light foot traffic is often possible after about a day, with parking several days later. Cure times vary by product and temperature.
Will epoxy peel?
Peeling almost always traces back to poor surface prep or moisture in the slab. Diamond grinding and a moisture check before coating are the best prevention.
Can epoxy go over an old coating?
Usually the old coating has to be ground off first. Mention it in your request so the installer can plan for removal.
